With all the hot chips smells, the bustling busy crowds of families with people walking everywhere, background noise of rides and kids laughing and screaming with joy…. In these conditions could any dog be expected to do much more then either keep their noses stuck to the ground for the hot dog someone dropped or jump excitedly at all the fun noises and people around?
In early March, seven members and their dogs from the Toowoomba Dog Obedience Club preformed a display to the public of basic to advanced obedience work. All the dogs worked excellently under the difficult conditions and showed the fete crowd just some of what these dogs are capable of doing. Coral Pethers did a great job on the microphone and introduced the handlers and dogs as well as explaining to the public what we were doing and why.
Afterward children flocked to pat the dogs, and members were able to demonstrate to the children how to approach and pat a dog you don’t know. The dogs off course lapped up all the extra attention!
It was a great morning for everyone involved, both dog and handler, and was a great opportunity for the public to see what can be achieved with a bit of training.
